Research Interests

With the increasing human life span, neurodegenerative diseases have become a key issue for the elder and their caretakers. The advancement of clinical diagnosis and drug development has provided great tools to battle neurodegenerative disorders. However, the whole picture of neurodegenerative diseases has not been revealed yet. For example, the causes of sporadic diseases are usually elusive, although they may share similar symptoms compared with inherited ones. Also, whether different neurodegenerative diseases share a common core mechanism has not been determined. Around 75% of the human disease genes have homologs in fly. In our lab, we have performed an EMS screen to identify genes regulating neuronal functions. I am now working on one of the groups which shows a morphological defect in neurons. Right now I am exploring the protein's subcellular localization as well as interaction with other gene products in order to better understand the function these mutants in neuronal system.
