Research Interests

I am interested in the role of mitochondrial dynamics in neurons under homeostasis and neurodegeneration. Mitochondria are dynamic organelles that continually undergo fusion, fission, and trafficking. These fundamental cell biological processes control mitochondrial shape, number, size, distribution, and physiology. In particular, neurons utilize mitochondrial dynamics to provide the high demand for energy at the synaptic terminals. In order to find novel genes that regulate mitochondrial physiology/dynamics we are performing a large-scale forward genetic screen.
