Research Interests

I am interested in deciphering the process and mechanisms of neurodegeneration through the study of Drosophila mutants.

My main project in the lab is the expression of mitochondrial genome-encoded respiratory chain genes from the nucleus (allotopic expression) to rescue encephalomyopathy phenotypes arising from Drosophila mitochondrial DNA mutations.

I am also working on the complementation group, XE14, that has been isolated from our lab's mosaic screen for essential genes on the X chromosome. XE14 eyFLP mutant clones manifest degenerative electroretinogram profiles and the presence of autophagosome-like structures in the lamina.
