Research Interests

I am a clinical fellow in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics having recently completed residency training in pediatrics. I have previously conducted research in genetic epidemiology. I am training to become a clinical specialist in pediatric genetic diseases and inborn errors of metabolism. I have joined the Bellen Lab because of the powerful genetics tools that Drosophila melanogaster provides, and because of the Lab's experience and success in assessing the development, physiology and resilience of the Drosophila nervous system. Specifically, stimulated by a recent clinical experience, I am using Drosophila as a model for the study of peroxisomal disorders, both involving biogenesis and specific enzymatic defects. I hope this effort will add to ongoing work in other organisms to better understand these complex and devastating diseases.
