Research Interests

Cells have developed various mechanisms to establish and maintain their integrity. These mechanisms appear to more crucial in neurons because they are large polarized cells with a relatively higher energy demand. I am interested in understanding the cellular machinery essential for maintenance and protection of neurons from various physiological and environmental stresses. Towards this end I have started a large scale forward genetic screen to uncover players involved in these processes in the visual system of the fly.
